Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Summary: The Engineering Technician IV will assist and lead the testing of Voyage Management System (VMS) in the BYG-1 and non-tactical environment and will provide SME input on test procedures to government Systems Engineers. Someone with experience with DoD Navigation Systems like Voyage Management System (VMS) and ECDIS-N is highly desired.

Essential Capabilities:

• Create test reports, provide briefs, troubleshoot test bay related issues, and support the installation of VMS in a test bay and laptop.
• Build, test, and report on all Navigation laptops ensuring the software aligns with ECDIS certification expectations.
• Provide Fleet support for VMS, MPA, and TACNAV including on-site technical support.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of navigation and radar engineers and subject matter experts.
• Communicate constantly with other team members ensuring all work is met under the leads expected timetable.
• A working knowledge of MS Office software.
• Experience with Linux based systems.
• Experience operating Mission Planning Application (MPA) or RADAR in a submarine environment.
• Highly desired: Quartermaster or equivalent Submarine Navigation position operating Electronics and Navigation systems.

Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of a Technical School Diploma required. Advanced submarine technical training (e.g. Navy “A” or “C” School) as a Quartermaster or equivalent Submarine Navigation position can be substituted for the diploma requirement.

Experience: Minimum of 4 years of Submarine Navigation experience required. Experience operating VMS in an underway setting and experience operating and maintaining TACNAV is required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands: Standard Offices and Electronics Assembly & Testing Labs: Sitting, standing, extended periods of time using a mouse and keyboard and viewing computer screens. Infrequent lifting of <40lbs. Movement between points within the same office or between buildings. Work is performed in generally consistent environmental conditions with some seasonality for temperature differences and lighting. In the Laboratory setting, significant use of small hand and electrical tools that require fine motor skills. Infrequent lifting of <40lbs., occasional twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling and squatting. Some potential exposure to fumes associated with soldering.
